Giants and Boulders and Bears...Oh My!

I got to visit national parks for the first time when I was a teen. The first park I can remember was Sequoia National Park in California. Boy, those trees really were giants! I remember being awestruck by the fact that a tree could be big enough for a car to drive through. I sat in wonder staring up at the endless sea of branches trying to catch a glimpse at the top of one of those suckers. My grandfather told me to “Take note, Jerri. They don’t become this big everywhere.”

Economy In The Tank? So What!? Go Green!

Nearly a year ago, Keith Bellows, editor-in-chief of National Geographic Traveler, spoke at the North American Travel Journalists Association conference in Cleveland. He spoke to the fact that travel is changing. He said we will see more people traveling with their families and more people traveling via backpacking, hiking, and by more environmentally-friendly means.

Wood-Fired Baby Artichokes & Cotton Candy

I have to say that it takes a lot to impress my tastebuds, let alone the tastebuds of more than a dozen travel writers. But there we were, sitting all together at the Bistro Napa (located at the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa in Reno, Nevada) ooooh-ing and aaaa-ing at each appetizer, entree, and dessert placed in front of us.

For The Joy of Luxury

High threadcount sheets...soft, yummy robes...beds you can stay in forever...massages that transport you to a far away land.... Let’s face it—luxury travel doesn’t suck.

Have Kids? Please Travel!

Blistering heat and hot cocoa in a motel room. These are the earliest memories I have of vacation.

Cruising Feeds The Imagination

When I think of cruising, the feeling of complete relaxation comes to mind. The first time I took a cruise, I was 17 and on my way to Alaska with my mother and grandparents. I was one of three people under the age of 45, and more often than not, I was bored out of my gourd. I spent a lot of time napping in my room while Mom, Grammy and Grampa played canasta with shipmates in one of the lounges. But Grampa encouraged me to write about my journey and what I saw. I still have that journal.

A Vision For The Future

Traveling in New England during the month of October is a personal joy. I’m sure that goes for a lot of people. But one particular trip in the Fall of last year put an extra skip in my step. I was being asked to attend my first NATJA advisory board meeting in Newport, Rhode Island. I was to outline my future plans for this magazine. This magazine being your magazine.
